No car guy's bucket list is complete without a shelby cobra. It's the most recognizable sports car ever built, and faithful copies can be found at every price point from diy kits to high-end builds like this awesome cobalt blue roadster, which packs a thundering 428 cubic inch v8. This fantastic-looking snake comes from mid state (now shell valley), and it's been professionally finished to give it a classic cobra look. The fiberglass bodywork is reinforced with kevlar in the important areas like the fenders and doors, and has the iconic bits and pieces that make the cobra a perennial favorite. Someone who cared about getting it right laid down the ppg cobalt blue paint and the white stripes, which do a fairly faithful job of replicating the original look. A lone chrome roll hoop is classic, as is the quick release fuel cap, plus chrome bumperettes front and rear that look race-ready, and that trick talbot-style mirror. And taller drivers don't have to worry, because the foot boxes were dropped a bit to increase legroom and it really works, because this is one of the more comfortable cobras we've driven. We like the raw toggle switches, the cowl-mounted mirror, and the forward-canted shifter, which manages a 5-speed manual gearbox. It's also got a good-sized trunk that's fully carpeted, so this car doesn't look or feel like a home-built special. Cobras were all about big block power, and nothing delivers a big hit of torque like the 428 cubic inch cobra jet v8 installed up front. Yanked from a mustang mach 1, it's plenty potent and was rebuilt with upgrades like edelbrock aluminum heads, a lunati camshaft, roller rockers, and a pair of holley 600 cfm carburetors up top. It's tuned right and runs great, and thanks to finned valve covers, twin air cleaners, and even a ford-style expansion tank, it looks just like 1966 all over again. The chassis is another strong point, with tubular control arms, rack-and-pinion steering, and coil-overs up front, and a built 9-inch rear on a 4-link and coil-overs lives out back. 3. 50 gears on a track-lok limited slip are plenty for the torquey big block and it just loafs along at highway speeds thanks to the tall overdrive in the five-speed manual transmission. Gorgeous 15-inch halibrands fill the wheel wells thanks to 235/60/15 front and 295/50/15 rear white-letter radials. Bucket Seats

With a 427 inch stroker motor, a fantastic color combination, and just 267 shakedown miles, this is a pro-built combat ready cobra that definitely brings the fury. A little different from the usual blue but still flashy as all get-out and sporting a pair of white racing stripes, it looks fast just sitting still. The factory five cobras are pretty darned nice and someone spent a ton of time and money prepping the new body for paint and then laid down some of the glossiest yellow urethane we've ever seen. Check out the alignment of the stripes from panel to panel, and note that they extend into both the hood and trunk jambs for a very cool effect. That doesn't just happen by accident. The buckets are correct cobra-style low-back units with vertical pleating, and the matching carpets help control noise and heat. 5-point harnesses for both driver and passenger suggest that this car was intended to do only one thing, but the overall interior look is fairly traditional, right down to the forward-canted shifter just like the original. Auto meter ultra light gauges keep an eye on the engine's vitals and live in a cool hammer-tone instrument panel that is a nice switch from the same-old, same-old stuff. There's a wood-rimmed steering wheel to really add to the vintage feel and that shifter manages a 5-speed tremec tko600 transmission. The trunk was also upholstered black tan carpeting and the new optima gel-cell battery lives underneath to help with weight distribution. The engine is a small block 351 windsor punched out to a big block stomping 427 cubic inches. Balanced and blueprinted internally, it sports a forged crank, eagle steel rods, srp forged pistons to make it bulletproof on the bottom end. Aluminum edelbrock heads and a matching intake topped by a big 4-barrel holley carburetor give it that vintage sound with instant throttle response. It lives happily on a diet of high-octane pump fuel, and the clever msd ignition system certainly helps. Ceramic-coated headers and side pipes render the correct cobra soundtrack, and along with a cobra dress-up kit, the mechanicals have a very authentic look and sound. Factory five's round tube chassis is one of the best in the business, and it has been powdercoated white for a very trick look. It's also very functional with tubular front control arms and a 9-inch rear end for durability. There's a vented, cross-drilled disc brake at each corner, and those 17-inch torque thrust wheels are exactly right on a cobra, with these wearing 275/40/17 front and 315/35/17 rear yokohama radials. Complete with build manuals, invoices, and other factory five paperwork, plus receipts from the build, this is an expertly built cobra that's ready to run without the wait.

The state-of-the-art in Cobra replicas has evolved to the point where the cars are things unto themselves. No longer saddled with trying to re-create a 1965 driving experience, cars like this Factory 5 Cobra roadster can now be modern-day supercars, street-legal weapons that have a vintage Cobra look but all the performance that modern technology can deliver. They spent a ton of time (AKA a big pile of cash) to get the fiberglass straight and then laid down a few coats of bright yellow paint that really makes this Cobra pop. On top of that, it got a set of black stripes that accurately replicate the original look, because a Cobra without stripes just isn't right. Details like the Lucas-style taillights, a driver's roll hoop, and chrome bumperettes out back suggest that it was built for combat, and the hardware underneath backs up this assumption. The interior definitely gets the Shelby thing right, with wrap-around buckets that look suitably vintage with some proper comfort marks that nail the old racer look. The gauges are big, white Auto Meter dials that watch all the vitals, and there's a cut-off switch right in the dash that makes killing power easy in an emergency. No, this car is all about going fast and doing it with style, and in that regard it's a massive success. The trunk is neatly upholstered in gray mouse fur, suggesting this Cobra was built to enjoy on the open road. Less weight up front means razor-sharp handling and the 5.0's penchant for making torque is undiminished in this Cobra replica. Factory fuel injection ensures reliability and the sucker certainly idles nicely, which is a great virtue in something like this. Headers and ceramic-coated side pipes offer that famous Cobra sound. There are as many reasons for building a Cobra replica as there are companies offering them, but the fellow who put this brutal black-on-black roadster together did it to get close to the authentic Cobra experience without the 7-figure price tag. Black Cobras are rare, but nobody will argue that the shape doesn't look like a million bucks here, and even though it was completed in 1994, a freshening. Sure, the body's fiberglass, but the proportions are familiar and instantly recognizable, and the guys at Unique Motorsports did a great job with the overall shape Air Conditioning✔ Aluminum Wheels
