The stingray was transformed in 1965 with the addition of big block power, and in 1966 the 'vette came with 427 cubic inches of thunder. This pretty sunfire yellow roadster packs its numbers-matching l72 427/425, which was the top engine in '66, plus a 4-speed gearbox, and side pipes, making it the ideal mix of beauty and beast. On the other hand, the soft sunfire yellow paint isn't at all aggressive and gives it a more refined look overall. Fortunately, the bodywork is in great shape because this is the kind of car that's going to get a lot of scrutiny, with factory-style gaps, flush-fitting headlight doors, and a nice shine that looks just about right for something built five decades ago (although the paint is obviously much newer than that). There's no stinger on the hood, which didn't come until later, so even though the hood's "power dome" is substantial, the car has a low-key look that's ideal for its split personality. Bright chrome pieces, proper emblems (check out how vivid the crossed-flags are on the nose), and plenty of other details make it look quite authentic and a lot nicer than many of its peers. There's a bit of patina that's actually quite appealing, but virtually no wear. The gauges were restored and show crisp markings, bright needles, and clear lenses, and the unusual vertically-oriented am/fm radio still works properly. Corvette fans will appreciate the shiny chrome shifter that links to a 4-speed muncie underneath and carpeted floor mats protect the matching black carpets. Overhead there's a recent black convertible top, but this corvette also includes a rather rare factory hardtop which has been fully restored and painted to match the bodywork. Thanks to a 4-barrel carburetor and a fairly significant camshaft, this matching-numbers 427 sure walks with a swagger and generates effortless performance. The engine bay is nicely detailed with chevy orange on the engine, an aluminum intake, and a correct open element air cleaner with reproduction decals. Little things like the hose clamps and even the hoses themselves are accurate reproductions, and aside from some signs of use, it's pretty nice. Stock exhaust manifolds dump into those barking side pipes, and a quick glance underneath will reveal that the chassis is as nicely detailed as the rest of the car. Correct knock-off wheels look great and carry 205/75/15 michelin radials that ride and handle better than the original bias-plys. Documented with judging sheets, certificates, restoration photos, manuals, and other paperwork, this is a very impressive mid-year 'vette. AM/FM

For a lot of guys, the 1959 corvette is the one to own. Painted traditional roman red with white side coves, this is the archetypal c1 and it looks like a million bucks. Crisp detailing, great panel alignment, and a lot of care in the fiberglass prep are all obvious in the high-quality finish. An equally big chunk of cash probably went into the chrome work, because the grille and bumpers are excellent, the stainless sparkles, and the windshield frame looks fantastic. The matching red interior is all new as well and looks fantastic in the iconic little roadster. A little more unusual but no less classic than the more common black interior, it has a vivid edge that's quite appealing in an early corvette. There's new foam under the fresh seat covers and there are new carpets with fresh padding underneath so it remains quiet and cool in the passenger compartment. The list of new stuff is rather extensive here, too, and the car came from the factory with an am radio and a heater/defroster unit, both of which were technically optional (though almost everyone bought both). Every indicator says the 283 cubic inch v8 engine is the car's original powerplant, and it is rebuilt and ready to rumble. The shrouded ignition system lights the fires almost instantly and the exhaust manifolds were recently refinished and linked to an all-new reproduction exhaust system. It rides on stock wheels with original hubcaps with new spinners, and the 6. 70-15 whitewall tires give it the look that everyone will envy. A great find with a vast amount of recent work, all adding up to a car that's ready to enjoy, or ready to show.

Even at this price, someone's losing a ton of money on the build, and with a long list of upgrades and a traditional look, it's the kind of car that that stops even the most jaded car show fan in his tracks. Well-done cars stand out. Finished in 2007, it still looks fantastic thanks to expert care and quality workmanship, and we do like the fact that it's not red. Of note, that's a California 1-piece front bumper (good luck finding another one of those!), and all the gold anodized parts have been polished to a high shine. The original bench seats wear correct two-tone blue upholstery with textured inserts, there are correct carpets with matching rubber floor mats, and the two-tone dash is a neat custom twist that most folks will think is an original feature. The gauges are modern pieces from Classic Instruments that fit neatly in the original pods, and the factory A/C vents are fed by a powerful modern A/C system from Vintage Air. An Ididit tilt column wears a three-spoke wheel that comes from a vintage Corvette, a nice touch. Entertainment comes via an AM/FM/cassette stereo in the original slot and the fantastic matching blue convertible top stows with the touch of a button. As I mentioned, the engine is a crate 350, but they did more than take it out of the box and throw it in. The block was smoothed and painted in Chevy Orange, then topped with a lot of polished aluminum and chrome. For power there's an Edelbrock intake manifold with a Holley 600 carb on top, along with a set of Hedman headers to handle the exhaust. A big aluminum radiator has no trouble keep it nice and cool, and the brakes are upgraded with a dual reservoir master cylinder and front discs. The suspension features 2-inch drop spindles up front and custom leaf springs out back to suspend a Chevy Nova 10-bolt rear end. A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission snaps off easy shifts and the stance is accentuated by a set of 15-inch Torque Thrust wheels with staggered 205/70/15 front and 235/. AM/FM✔ Air Conditioning

The front seat may very well be original, while the . For some, the choice may seem out of character, but it was actually a very popular choice, hearkening back to the days of early coachbuilding where the driver would get black leather seats to protect against stains. The two-tone color combination was about as flashy as Rolls-Royce got, and it highlights the most interesting aspects of the car quite nicely, particularly that long hood and sweeping fenders, complements of familiar Rolls-Royce coachbuilder HJ Mulliner Air Conditioning✔ Leather Seats

Early c1 corvettes are wonderful cars and prices are rightfully skyrocketing on great examples. All the full-blown resto-mods get a lot of attention, but somehow sticking a modern chassis under a vintage body isn't the same. Finish quality is quite good, but in a nod to the purists, it's not perfect which is just how real corvette lovers prefer their cars. The fiberglass is in great condition, the doors close easily and show nice gaps, and the trim is fitted with care, giving the car a very polished look. There are echoes of the first cars in the delicate rear bumpers with the exhaust pipes poking through and there's nobody who won't think this is an awesome-looking car. The red interior was thoroughly restored, starting with all new materials on the floors, seats, and doors. A 4-speed on the floor makes it more than entertaining to drive and with a digital am/fm radio in the center of the dash, going on a long road trip is a pleasure. There's also a nice-fitting convertible top that's like new as well as a neatly finished trunk. The engine is a 1957 283 cubic inch v8 which has the right look and feel and has been fully rebuilt for use in this corvette. All the right details are there, from the louvered air cleaner to the finned valve covers and chevy orange paint, so at a glance it looks quite authentic. Ram's horn exhaust manifolds feed a reproduction dual exhaust system so it sounds very much like a corvette should and thanks to a rebuilt suspension, brakes, and steering, it feels quite taut going down the road. Obviously the underside is fresh and clean and it sits on correct steel wheels with hubcaps and 205/75/15 wide whitewall radials. With a few sensible upgrades, this corvette's usability goes way up without diluting all the things that make old cars great. Climb in and find out why this one is special. Tachometer✔ AM/FM

The 1940 fords were gorgeous vehicles, no two ways about it. This 100% steel pickup is a fresh professional build with all the upgrades, and yes, ford fans, it's got blue oval power, too! This is not some fiberglass replica but an all-steel 1940 ford pickup that's been skillfully and tastefully modified to create a show-stopping machine. The '40 ford pickup borrowed the '39 ford passenger car front end, and there just aren't many better ways to start than that. A lot of the chrome was shaved, including the door handles, but things like the body moldings, awesome teardrop headlights, and that v-shaped grille all remain in place. A hard-shell tonneau cover converts the bed into the world's biggest trunk and a custom rear roll pan incorporates the exhaust tips and recessed license plate holder. The dash is still factory stock, but it's been filled with classic instruments gauges in a woodgrained fascia that looks completely appropriate here. Colorado customs supplied a billet wheel that matches the rolling stock and all the creature comforts are included: a/c, tilt column, power windows, and an am/fm/cd stereo in its own overhead console. The stereo's amplifier is showcased between the seats and has been painted to match the bodywork, and there's a thumping subwoofer just underneath. This one is fueled by the aforementioned fast fuel injection system, which sits atop an edelbrock intake manifold and lights the fires with a mallory unilite system. It's backed by an aod 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, which slots neatly betwe. Bucket Seats✔ Power Windows✔ AM/FM✔ Cruise Control✔ Air Conditioning✔ CD Player✔ Leather Seats

Kind of funny that a car built for abuse on the track has become so valuable that nobody takes them out to play anymore, but here's one that's cosmetically gorgeous but still ready to get out and play. First off, this is a real a12, as denoted by the 'm' as the fifth digit in the vin. The rest of the fender tag is a bit cryptic because these cars were simply 383 coronets pulled off the assembly line and given a full makeover. But it's definitely legit. It was original a code r4 charger red car, but when it was restored, it was given a proper coat of hemi orange. Nothing else says performance quite the same way and given the show-quality workmanship, i don't think anyone is going to complain. Sure, both bumpers are nicer than anything coming out of the hamtramck factory in '69, and the unobtainable grille up front is in outstanding condition, but the overall look is purposeful, not ornamental, and that's what we like most. Bench seats and nothing but the essentials were the recipe for the a12's success on the track. If it didn't make the car go faster, it wasn't installed, it was just that simple. This one was restored with that philosophy in mind, and the use of original materials and patterns gives it an honest look that celebrates simplicity and purpose. The trunk is neatly finished with a correct plaid mat and a full-sized spare tire assembly plus jack. The heart of the a12 is a 440 cubic inch mill topped by the six pack induction system. In the lightweight super bee, it was formidable and in the hands of the right driver, usually faster than even the mighty hemi. This one has been rebuilt to stock specs and includes the giant six pack air cleaner that seals itself to the hood for a ram-air effect. Correct hemi orange paint, reproduction clamps and hoses, and a heavy-duty 26-inch radiator add to the a12 look under the hood. The chassis is very well finished, and aside from some stainless mufflers, is completely stock. Tachometer

The craziness surrounding matching numbers is getting out of hand when people will overlook cars like this incredible 1966 corvette roadster simply because of a few numbers stamped into the block. It has a thundering 427 under the hood, a 4-speed, a great color combination, and a high-quality restoration that's only 3000 miles old, all for a significant discount compared to a numbers 427 car. The restoration is very nicely done, with a handsome paint job that looks better than plain old milano maroon, thanks to a touch of metallic in the mix. Mid-year corvettes can be a challenge to get right, but the way this one fits together emulates the factory's workmanship pretty well (meaning that it's imperfectly perfect, just the way corvette guys like it). Milano maroon is this car's original color (code 988) and it provides a wonderful subtle contrast to the horsepower living within. Corvettes were horsepower embodied, so they didn't need stripes or other add-ons to be impressive, so this one keeps it stock hood and is instead dressed up with bright chrome trim that's in excellent condition. Nice bumpers, correct emblems, and other little details all add up to a car that looks great without looking over-done. That's the code std standard vinyl upholstery, but it looks a lot more upscale than something called standard should. This car did come with a regular black interior, so the whole driver's compartment was simply restored to like-new condition and looks great. And yes, the 36,750 miles showing are authentic. The chrome shifter for the 4-speed manual gearbox falls easily to hand and it's now tied to a hurst linkage, which snaps through the gates with real authority. But the reason this corvette is special is under the hood, where the magical numbers '427' resonate with chevy fans around the world. They did stamp the correct numbers on the pad, but it's important to note that this is not the car's original engine. There's a comp cams roller cam inside, but otherwise the internals are stock, and an electronic ignition was added for reliability. The big valve covers are proper plain stampings and fa. AM/FM

Matching-numbers examples like this Cortez Silver 1969 Z are already seeing some strong gains in the market, and that totally overlooks the fact that they are quite likely the best-driving first generation F-bodies of all. They were obviously well aware of the Z/28's rapid appreciation rate, so they focused on quality, getting the body straight and smooth before applying correct code 69 Cortez Silver with black SS stripes, which is this car's original color. The results are impressive because the car stands out without being an extrovert, a hard thing to do in the bright Streetside Classics showroom. It also carries a correct cowl induction hood, which was actually optional on the Z/28 but makes a big difference in value and desirability. The B on the cowl tag also denotes a black vinyl top, which gives the Z/28 a grown-up look that also adds to its subtlety and we like it a lot. All the same standards apply inside, where the code 712 black bucket seat interior is pretty much the way it would have been on the showroom floor in 1969. This car was clearly a street car, not destined for combat, so it has a few luxury items like the wood-rimmed steering wheel on a tilt column and a center console with white-faced auxiliary gauges, more options that push this Z/28 up the desirability ladder. Oddly enough, even a tach was optional, but this car has one and it's hard to imagine a Z/28 without it, especially given its high-winding nature. A proper Hurst cue ball shifter manages the Z's standard 4-speed manual gearbox and few cars are as satisfying to run through the gears as this one. Even the trunk is correctly detailed with a reproduction mat and full-sized spare tire assembly with jack. The heart of the Z/28 is its engine, a bespoke 302 cubic inch V8 that loves to sing. This is the car's original, numbers-matching DZ-code engine, rebuilt to stock specifications and cackling with a unique small block snarl that's a big part of the experience. Under that cowl induction air cleaner there's a Holley 4-barrel carburetor on a nicely detailed Chevy Orange block with finned valve covers, correct tower hose clamps, reproduction hoses, and a set of long-tube headers that certainly help with the high-RPM breathing. The transmission is a correct Muncie 4-speed powering a rugged 12-bolt rear with 3.73 gears in. AM/FM✔ CD Player✔ Bluetooth

With one owner for the past 50 years, this handsome and very usable 1957 chevrolet bel air convertible is the right combination of good looks and usability. Finished in the most traditional of all '57 chevy color combinations and powered by a venerable small block v8, there are few more iconic collector cars than the '57 chevy convertible. Their rapidly escalating values are proof that even with a mass-produced car, the rules of supply and demand prevail. In short, everyone loves '57 chevys. Forget over-restored cars that sparkle like costume jewelry, this car is highly authentic-looking with crisp details and hasn't been over-dressed with add-ons like fender skirts and a continental kit. After 50 years of care, it shouldn't be surprising that the interior has been recently restored. Both front and rear bench seats use correct patterns and materials, including the tufted buttons on the seat backs, and the door panels are like new. The dash is full of bright, crisp gauges, and the color-matched steering wheel shows no cracks or other damage. An original am radio still lives in the dash and all the brightwork here is as nice as the stuff outside. Correct carpets are protected by a set of matching floor mats, while overhead there's a neatly fitted white power convertible top that looks almost new and includes a matching red boot. The trunk is correctly restored with a rubber mat, bias-ply spare tire, and proper jack assembly. Resto-mods and crate motors didn't exist back then, so all the original accessories were reused, although there's an edelbrock intake manifold and 4-barrel carburetor to perk things up a bit. Performance is lively with great v8 sounds and a healthy burble from the dual tailpipes that exit under the rear bumper. The original generator is still making electricity and power steering was tucked in underneath using a saginaw setup. There's also a later dual reservoir master cylinder for safety. Underneath, the chassis is clean and ready to show, with a 2-speed powerg. AM/FM

For many, the '56s are a favorite with numerous upgrades over the '55s, a continental kit, and a purer look than the '57s, and there's nobody who doesn't smile when they see this little convertible coming. The paint is just gorgeous, and aside from a chip near the hood scoop, we can't find many flaws to mention; someone spent a ton of time and money on . The appeal of cars like this '56 Thunderbird is easy to understand: V8 power, a carefree attitude, a top that goes down, and lots of style Air Conditioning
